What are the 3 Treaty Principles
Participation, Protection and Partnership
Protection
Active protection of Maori interests, rangitiratanga, rights and taonga is a government priority.
Give an example of Protection.
The Auckland government have protected the Maunga for those generations who have gone and yet to come.
Partnership
The treaty created a relationship between the Maori and the Crown and both parties must act with the utmost good faith.
Give an example of Partnership.
They worked together in the Auckland Tupuna Maunga treating each other fairly.
Participation
The Crown will provide Tangata Whenua with the opportunity to engage with decision making processes at all levels.
Give an example of Participation.
They shared the decision-making processes and the Auckland government returned the 14 maunga.
