A
Set up in 1975 and honours any grievance after that.
Changed in 1985 so it honours any grievance after the 06/Feb/1840

Who?
A
Matiu Rata-Minister of Maori Affairs-concerned the government to address Maori grievances by setting up a special tribunal.

Why?
A
- Maori wanted equity with Pakeha.
- Maori wanted a stop to land sales.
- Maori want revival of their culture.
- Maori want to honour the treaty.

A
Anywhere a hearing is taking place: local marae, hall, conference room.

To provide a legal process for investigating Maori claims of Crown breaches of the Treaty and make recommendations for setting them.

The Tribunal researches Maori claims and then makes decisions about the best way forward then gives the Government its recommendations.
