(15 cards)
What is the trinity?
Father, son, holy spirit
“The lord is our God, the God alone”
3 points about the truine God
. There is only one God
. The three persons are all God
. They are all equal but not the same
Why does the magisteruim have authority?
There are laws for different things. An example of this is no same sex marriage.
What is the Nicene creed?
The Nicene Creed is a prayer that sums up the main beliefs of the Christian faith, especially about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. E.g “We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.”
Importance of our conscience for christians
For Christians, the conscience is the voice of God in their heart, guiding them to make the right choices.
Two reasons why the magisterium has authority
. Jesus gave authority to Peter, the first pope (‘you are Peter and upon this rock I build my Church).’
• It’s decisions are guided by the God the Holy Spirit
TWO ways in which belief in the Trinity influences Catholics today
. inspires Catholics to pass God’s love onto others. E.g teacher, doctor etc.
. inspires Catholics to evangelise (preach) about Jesus to others.
Definition of evangelism
Evangelism means spreading the message of Jesus to others to help them believe in God.
Definition of consubstantial
In the Nicene Creed, it means Jesus is fully God, just like God the Father. The holy spirit is the third person in the full God
Why is music useful in church?
Enhances Worship and Prayer - Helps the faithful engage more deeply in prayer and worship.
Biblical Foundation - Music is rooted in Scripture, with many psalms and biblical references encouraging song and praise.
Expresses Joy and Praise - Music is used to express gratitude and joy in God’s glory.
Negatives of modern day music
Lack of Theological Depth – Lyrics may be simplistic or vague.
Over-Emphasis on Entertainment – Focus on performance over worship.
Distraction – Loud or upbeat music can hinder focus during worship.
Why are there different postures for prayer?
Different postures in prayer express reverence, humility, focus, and spiritual states, following biblical, historical, and liturgical traditions to enhance the prayer experience.
What does pontifical mean?
Another word for ‘pope’ is the Pontiff – so we can call the Catholic Church Pontifical.
