Truth and deception - main points
Scrutiny- Gatsby lies about his identity similarly in the scrutiny the man lies about his promise to marry for her as a source of desperation to fulfil their desires.
The flea- Tom use of the apartment to hide how his love for myrtle is truly lust is similar to the speaker of the flea using the flea to symbolise them already being physically connected so he can please his sexual desires.
Both poems - both lie to their partners without thinking of the heart breaking consequences it will leave on the women.
