(10 cards)
What is the first Rule of bone tumors?
Metastatic tumor is the most likely answer
Types of Metastatic disease (lytic vs Sclerotic)
Sclerotic- stimulating osteoblasts (Prostate metasteses)
Lytic- stimulate osteoclastic bone resorption
Osteoma
solitary slow growing tumor on or inside the skull and facial bones.
made of mature lamerllar bone. (ivory osteomas)
Osteoid Osteoma
less than 2 cm.
occurs in teens and young adults
occur in long bones (usually femur)
pain responds to aspirin
Osteoblastoma
Larger than 2 cm
involve the spine
pain is unresponsive to aspirin
Osteochondroma

only in endochondral bones
slow growing and asymptomatic
Endochondroma
Benign neoplasms of hyaline cartilage.
Chondrosarcoma
Produces exclusively cartilage.
Painful enlarging mass.
Ewing sarcoma
Primitive neuroectodermal tumors
Aggressive malignancy
Translocation t(11;22)
layers of reactive bone deposited in an “onion skin”
Giant Cell Tumors
Osteoclastoma of the epiphysis with lytic lesions and soap bubble appearance.
