Type 2 conditions Flashcards
(4 cards)
Pre diabetes
6-6.4% HbA1c but individual
Before Type II
UK 1 in 4
80% caused by diet and exercise
IGT-Impaired glucose tolerance
High sugar levels after a meal
Pancreas cannot release same amount of insulin and tissues aren’t as sensitive in removing and transporting glucose
Not enough insulin resistance
Higher fat around the pancreas
IFT- Impaired fasting glucose
Normal BG after meal but high in the morning
High insulin resistance so liver produces too much BG
Increased hepatic insulin resistance due to high fat around the liver
Lifestyle intervention on IGT and IFT
IFG was not significant reduction by lifestyle changes, IGT was
IFG needs calorific restriction, IGT needs exercise
Less calories improves liver sensitivity by 58% for IFG
Weight loss doesn’t always reflect BG
Uneffective if on insulin over 4 years
