What is compliance?
When? = ppl conform + goes along w. opinions and/or beh. of others in public
No change in PV/Beh. privately
Most superficial = change to beh stops when pressure removed
What is identification?
When? = conform to opinions/beh. bcs identify w/ group
Change op/beh. publicly - may privately disagree
What is internalisation?
When? = conforms + genuine accepts op/beh. of others publicly + privately
Most permanent = continue even after press. removed
What type of process is informational SI?
Cognitive:
Ppl have need to be correct
Look for guidance from others on say/do
When does ISI occur?
Most likely - new or ambiguous sit or crisis
Required to think quickly
Consider expert in group
What can ISI lead to?
Internalisation
Genuinely believe view/actions of majority correct
Permanent change
What type of process is normative SI
Emotional
Need love and belonging + social acceptance = conform reward of avoiding rejection
When does NSI occur?
Ppl know well + greater need for social approval
Stressful situations = high need for SS
What can NSI lead to?
Compliance
Only change beh. to gain social acceptance + approval
Views stay the same privately
AO3: Strength = NSI RS
TIB… Asch = conform bcs self conscious, when written = CR down 25% = private ans
Counter… NSI not effect everyone same way = less concerned abt being liked = less effect
TICBAT… underlies conformity for some ppl

TIB… Lucas high conformity w/ x ans. to hard maths qs -> dependant on belief of ability
Counter… unclear NSI or ISI
TICBAT… not easy separate ISI and NSI = mostly both
AO3: Limitation Ignores CD
TIB… high in CC, low in IC = more favourable
TIBP… e.g. S+B = analyse AT w. diff cultures = CR in IC was 25% compared to 37% CC
TICBAT… extent prepare conform depend on social + cultural norms
