Types of Display Flashcards

Q

cathode ray tube, or CRT Monitors

How do they work?

A

it uses electrons and it literally fires them from a gun behind the screen.

And electrons carry a negative charge. The electrons then strike the screen, or the sensor component of the screen, and it activates phosphors, which cause illumination

Types of LCD Displays

A
  1. in-plane switching, or IPS
is considered to have the best color accuracy and viewing angles and overall image quality
  2. super plane to line switching, or PLS
developed by Samsung, and it is very similar to IPS, the in-plane switching, but it tends to be a little bit brighter
  3. vertical alignment, or VA
does offer wider viewing angles and better quality, but it had slower response times
  4. and twisted nematic, or TN panel technology
does offer wider viewing angles and better quality, but it had slower response times

Q

what is organic light-emitting diodes, or OLED

A

and this is a very thin display technology that does not require any kind of backlighting

uses organic compounds to produce electroluminescence

THIS CONTAINS a TFT, which is known as a thin film transistor. Then an anode, and that’s the opposite of a cathode.

Q

Two different types within OLED
passive-matrix OLED
active-matrix OLED
What are the differences

A

Passive: which strictly uses the electroluminescent layer to light the screen. In other words, it does not use the TFT

Active: does use the TFT. But the problem here is that the organic compounds that produce the luminescence do tend to degrade over time. So with the active, this was a better choice for devices that aren’t on all the time, such as your tablet or your phone.
