What are Communes?
- Developed in Western Europe, Britain and US in 1960s
- A number of adults and children living and working together
- children are held reponsible by the group rather than their natural parents
What is The Kibbutz?
- childrearing seperated from marriage relationships
- children kept away from their natural parents as much as possible
- children brought up by a professional parent (metapelets)
- children were seen as the children of the kibbutz - the responsibility of the community as a whole
What is the Nayar?
- South west India in 19th century
- a women had sexual relations with any man she wishes up to 12 men.
- so children were uncertain of their father
- there was no link between having sexual relations, child bearing, childrearing and cohabitation
