(10 cards)
What is visual guidance?
When the coach performs or shows a video of a skill to show how it is performed.
What is verbal guidance?
Telling a performer how to conduct a skill or how to improve.
What is mechanical guidance?
Using an object or piece of apparatus to help the performer conduct the skill.
What is manual guidance?
When the coach or another person physically touches the performer to assist them.
Give advantages of visual guidance:
- easy to create a mental picture of what is required
- keeps the performers attention
- can address the whole group at once
Give disadvantages of visual guidance:
- the demonstration could be wrong, therefore the performer may learn the skill incorrectly
- the coach may not be able to show an accurate demonstration
- could take a long time
Give advantages of verbal guidance:
•straight to the point
•quick feedback
Doesn’t require a demonstration
Give disadvantages of verbal guidance:
- the performer may not understand what is been said
- not massively useful for a cognitive performer
- hard to create a mental picture without been shown
Give advantages of mechanical/manual guidance:
- reduces risk of injury to the performer
- good for cognitive performers
- can help with any skill
Give an example of where mechanical guidance is used
In trampolining harnesses are often used. This helps the performer get a feel for the task and reduces risk of injury
