1
Q

Factor / Lever / Component logic trees

A

DESIGN:
Problem statement < lever 1,2,3 < sub-lever A,B,C

WHEN TO USE:
Early on when you don’t know about the underlying structure or can’t yet form hypotheses.

Q

Inductive logic trees

A

DESIGN:
(Think of components as end points)
Component 1,2,3,4 > other related components > problem statement

WHEN TO USE:
Early on when you know something about the end points of the problem but still don’t understand the underlying structure or relationship between the parts.

Q

Deductive logic tree

A

DESIGN:
Problem statement > relationship 1 + Relationship 2 > factor A + factor B

WHEN TO USE:
When you have a very clear idea of the problem structure especially when it is logically or mathematically coherent (e.g. return on capital trees).

Q

Hypothesis Trees

A

DESIGN:
Problems statement > hypothesis 1 OR hypothesis 2 OR hypothesis 3 > sub fact A + sub fact b, Assertion A + Assertion B

WHEN TO USE:
When you know enough about the structure to make clear hypotheses to begin to test with your data gathering.
