Types of MSDs, localization and neuromotor bases Flashcards
Localization and type for WEAKNESS?
Place: Lower motor neuron (final common pathway, motor unit)
Type: Flaccid
flaccid - dic, lower part of the body used in motor activities ;)
Localization and type for SPASTICITY?
Place: Bilateral upper motor neuron (direct and indirect activation pathways)
Type: Spastic
*spastic ends with a ‘c’ - cap (b/c upper, in your head) and two/too (bilateral) tight!
Localization and type for INCOORDINATION?
Place: Cerebellum (cerebellar control circuit)
Type: Ataxic
*get ATTACKED (ataxic) from BEHIND (cerebellum in at the back of the head) and you become uncoordinated as you fall (=in-coordination)
Localization and type for RIGIDITY (reduced range of movement, scaling problems)?
Place: basal ganglia control circuit (extrapyramidal)
Type: Hypokinetic
*Hypo is low/fat (like hippo), can’t move because too fat (rigid), you’re a Bloated Guy (Basal Ganglia)
Localization and type for UPPER MOTOR NEURON WEAKNESS, INCOORDINATION AND SPASTICITY?
Place: Unilateral upper motor neuron
Type: Unilateral upper motor neuron
*it’s UNIVERSAL (because there are so many symptoms), includes the top three types’ specific neuromotor bases: weakness, spacisticity and incoordination
Localization and type for MORE THAN ONE UNDERLYING PATHOLOGY?
Place: more than one
Type: Mixed
Localization and type for PLANNING AND PROGRAMMING ERRORS?
Place: left (dominant) hemisphere
Type: Apraxia of Speech
*you PRACTice (apraxia) a Speech before you present it, and you also have to PLAN it (planning errors). You may appear in the event PROGRAM (programming errors) on the LEFT side where all the presenters’ names appear.
