What weather hazards does the UK experience

A

Heavy rainfall can cause flooding which can damage homes or drown people e.g. in parts of South Wales it flooded in 2018

Heat waves can cause breathing problems or heat exhaustion which can kill people e.g. 2018 was one of the hottest summers on record with tempearures reaching 35 degrees in kent

Somerset storms 2013-2014

A

LOts of rain fell on already saturated ground, causing extensive flooding

HUmans also played a part since the river hasnt been dredged for 20 years, which reduced their capacity

social impacts:

More than 600 homes were flooded
INsurance prices soared

ENvironmental impacts:
Tonnes of mud and debris were left by floods, damaging vegetation
11,500 hecaters were flooding, in cluding farm land which further destroyued many crops

Economic imoacts:
local companies lost moe than £1.2 million in business
THe total cost of damage was £80 mil[lion

Management strategies used:

Warning systems gave people time to prepare

THe goverment has set up a 20 year plan to limit risk of future flooding. £100 million will be spent on regular dredging of rivers Parrett and Tone
