What is the definition of deviance?

A

-deviance is any behaviour that goes against the dominant social norms of a specific group of people. And usually causes some kind of critical reaction or disapproval.

What are the tree forms of deviance?

A

-admired behaviour: deviant but considered good or admirable like risking your life to save another, as most people would not do so.
-odd behaviour: deviant by being different or strange like hugging a tree.
-bad behaviour: deviant because its unusual like attacking someone for no good reason.

What is meant by informal sanctions against deviance and what are some examples?

A

Are used when rules are not formally written down , more likely to be unspoken. Others will show disapproval if the rule is broke like:
-frowning upon behaviour
-name calling
-being laughed

These are imposed by official bodies and are punishments for breaking written rules or laws. Some examples are:
-at work you can get fired
-at school you can get detention
