civic nationalism

A

nationalism based on shared political values or beliefs as a foundation for citizenship in a nation state

The ethnic, cultural, or religious background of each citizen is not important. For example, Canada has a policy of multiculturalism (the acceptance of many cultures), but all Canadian citizens accept the democratic form of government.
