What is a Noun?
A labelling word that is used to identify people, places or things, that can be capitalised or uncapitalised

What are the sub-categories of Nouns?
- Proper Nouns.
- Concrete Nouns.
- Abstract Nouns.
- Collective Nouns.

What is a Proper Noun?
Refer to names of things, people or places.
E.g. James, England, London

What is a Concrete Noun?
Objects that have a physical existence; they can be touched.
E.g. cup, table, car.

What is an Abstract Noun?
States, Feelings & Concepts; they can’t be touched.
E.g. love, anger, hatred.

What is a Collective Noun?
Groups of people, animals or objects.
E.g. flock of sheep, herd of cows, family.

What is an Adjective?
A word that describes/ adds extra context to a Noun.

What are the sub-categories of Adjectives?
- Evaluative Adjectives.
- Comparative Adjectives.
- Superlative Adjectives.

What is an Evaluative Adjective?
They offer a judgement on the noun being described.
E.g. The student’s work was awful.

What is a Comparative Adjective?
Usually end in -er or have more in front of them. They make comparisons.
E.g. You are more happy than him, Nadine is happier than you.

What is a Superlative Adjective?
Express the highest degree of quality, & usually end in -est or have most in front of them.
E.g. You are the most stupid person I have ever met, Mr Shovlin is the smartest man alive.

A word that is used to describe an action or state of being.

What are the sub-categories of Main Verbs?
- Dynamic Verb.
- Stative Verb.

What is a Dynamic Verb?
A physical action.
E.g. Running, Sleeping, Talking.

What is a Stative Verb?
Show states of being or conditions.
E.g. Be, Felt, Appear, Seem.

What are the Primary Auxiliary Verbs?
- Be.
- Do.
- Have.
It also includes all the different tenses & states of the main three.

- Can, Could.
- Shall Should.
- Will, Would.
- May, Might, Must.
- Ought to.

What are Adverbs?
They give more information about verbs, by modifying them. They describe verbs in a similar way to adjectives describing nouns.
But, they can modify other word classes, E.g. Adjectives, Sentences & other Adverbs.

- Degree Adverb.
- Evaluation Adverb.

What is a Circumstance Adverb?
Give detail of the circumstance in which the action happened.
Such as; Manner - How?/ Time - When?/ Place - Where?/ Frequency - How Often?.

Shows how a verb/ action is being done.
