IA: 9 mo
Position for testing of Rooting reflex?
supine or sitting /c head in midline
What is the stimulus for testing the Rooting Reflex?
stroke corner of mouth, upper lip, and lower lip
What is the normal response to the Rooting Reflex?
Movement of tongue, mouth and head toward the stimulus /c opening of the mouth
Position for testing the Suck-Swallow Reflex?
supine /c head in midline
What is the stimulus for testing the Suck-Swallow Reflex?
Place finger or nipple inside the infants mouth
Normal response for the Suck-Swallow reflex?
lip closure, followed by strong, rhythmical suck and finally swallow
Position for testing the Moro reflex?
supine /c head in midline
Stimulus for testing the Moro Reflex?
rapidly drop the infant’s head backwards about 30 degrees
Normal response to testing the Moro Reflex?
First phase: arm ext/ABD and hand opening
Second phase: arm flex/ADD
- Often accompanied /c crying, shaking, or tremors
Position for testing Traction reflex?
supine /c head in midline
Stimulus for testing Traction reflex?
grasp infant’s forearms and pull to sit
Normal response to testing Traction reflex?
complete flexion of both upper extremities including a grasp
Position for testing Plantar Grasp reflex?
supine /c head in midline
Stimulus for testing Palmar Grasp reflex?
apply pressure /c your thumb on ball of infant’s foot
Normal respone to Palmar Reflex?
toe flexion
Onset age and integration age of Palmar Grasp reflex?
OA: 37 wk gestation (birth)
IA: 4-6 mo
Position for testing palmar grasp reflex?
supine /c head in midline
Stimulus for Palmar grasp reflex?
place index finger in infants palm from ulnar side and give pressure to palm
Normal response for palmar grasp reflex?
Phase 1: “catching” or quick flexion and ADD of arms
Phase 2: “holding” or reflexive grasp
