Initiates the process by having a thought or an idea that he or she wishes to transmit to some other entity

Activities that a source goes through to translate thought and ideas into a form that may be perceived by the senses

Actual physical product that the sound encodes

Ways the message travels to the receiver
Decoding
Activities that translate or interpret physical message into a form that meaning for a receiver
Receiver
Target of the message
Feedback
Responses of the receiver that shape and alter the subsequent messages of the sources
Can be delayed or immediate
Noise
Anything that interferes with the delivery of the message
Three types
Semantic
Mechanical
Environmental
Semantic noise
Different people have different meaning with different words and phrases; when arrangement of words confuses the meaning
Mechanical noise
Problem with a machine that is being used to assist communication
Examples
TV set w/ pixilation, pen running out of ink, static filled radio
Environmental noise
External to communication
Examples - noise at a restaurant; noise increases message fidelity goes down
