What are the three Theoretical Perspectives?
Functionalism, Conflict Perspective, and Symbolic Interaction
What is Functionalism?
The approach that emphasizes the contributions made by each part of society.
What is Conflict Perspective?
The approach that emphasizes conflict, competition, constraint, and change.
What is Symbolic Interaction?
The approach that focuses on the interactions among people based on mutually understood symbols.
What is Manifest Function?
The original purpose of an aspect in society.
What is Latent Function?
An aspect of society that wasn’t intended but becomes apart of it over time.
What is Dysfunction?
Negative consequence of an aspect of society.
What is an example of Manifest Function?
A bank’s main purpose is to store money.
What is an example of Latent Function?
The bank can give out loans.
What is an example of Dysfunction?
The bank can be robbed.

Power

The way people interact through use of symbols can affect how they make sense of the world around them.
What are three examples of symbols in society?
Waving, Camping sign, and Rest Stop sign.
