Define Neolithic
AKA stone age. This was a period in the development of human technology, beginning about 10,200 BC
Define nomadic
People who move from one place to another, instead of living in one place.
Define legacy
Anything handed down from the past, that has meaning, or reveals to us something about the past
Define ka
Ka- The Egyptian Soul. Ka and ba were spiritual entities that everyone possessed
Define Hammurabi
Babylonian law code of ancient Mesopotamia. It is one of the oldest deciphered writings of significant length in the world.
Define Gilgamesh
Epic of Gilgamesh, an Akkadian poem that is considered the first great work of literature, and in earlier Sumerian poems
Define Ramesses
Pharaoh. Was of non-royal birth, being born into a noble military family.
Define Khufu
Pharaoh. Commissioned the Great Pyramid of Giza
Define Osiris
God of earth and vegetation (portrayed in mummified form)
Define Horus
Son of Isis and Osiris. (Falcon headed god wearing double-crown of Egypt)
Define Amon-Re
Re has a sun disk on his head and often named the creator of humans. Later on Amon and Re were united.
Define Ma’at
The ancient Egyptian concept of truth, balance, order, harmony, law, morality, and justice.
Maat was also personified as a goddess regulating the stars, seasons
Define Anubis
Jackal- headed god of mummification
Define Thoth
Ibis-headed god of wisdom and writing and often associated with the moon
Define Emperor Qin (Shi Huangi)
First emperor of a unified China (Qin dynasty)
Define Confucius
Confucius was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher
Causes of the Agricultural/Neolithic Revolution
Series of weather changes in a fertile area of the Middle East. Edible plants and game were abundant, encouraging previously nomadic people to build settlements. When the weather changed, these people learned to cultivate plants and animals to replace hunting and gathering
Characteristics of civilizations (most/least important and why)
Six of the most important characteristics are: cities, government, religion, social structure, writing and art.
How did these architectures leave behind legacies? Pyramids of Egypt and temples of the Maya, and Mesopotamia;
