Unit 1 Exp Design RO Flashcards
(45 cards)
Testable Question
Testable question are ones which can be answered through experimental inquiry and observation of the natural world.
Non-testable Question
Questions that cannot be answered by direct observation or by evidence gathered through experimental inquiries
Quantitative
Quantitative observations can be counted or measured. They are in the form of a number. These are also called numeric observations.
Qualitative
Qualitative observations cannot be counted or measured. They describe a quality of what is being observed such as color, texture, and smell. These are also called descriptive observations.
Observation
the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information.
Models in science
a physical and/or mathematical and/or conceptual representation of a system of ideas, events or processes.
Trials
a formal examination of evidence before a judge, and typically before a jury, in order to decide guilt in a case of criminal or civil proceedings.
Empirical evidence
the information obtained through observation and documentation of certain behavior and patterns or through an experiment.
Analogy
a comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification.
Data
facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis.
Prototype
Variable
not consistent or having a fixed pattern; liable to change.
Hypothesis
a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Precision
the quality, condition, or fact of being exact and accurate.
Procedure
a particular way of accomplishing something or of acting
Accuracy
the quality or state of being correct or precise.
Scientific method
the process of objectively establishing facts through testing and experimentation.
Control
the power to influence or direct people’s behavior or the course of events.
Constant
occurring continuously over a period of time.
Predict
to declare or indicate in advance.
Infer
to derive by reasoning; conclude or judge from premises or evidence.
Manipulated variable
a factor that is purposefully and specifically changed by the experimenter.
Independent variable
a variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by the other variables you are trying to measure.
Dependent variable
what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment.
