(20 cards)
what is a computer system?
a collection of hardware devices and software that work together to receive data, change the data to information, present the information to the user and store the information and has both hardware and software
what is software ( program)
a series of telling the computer what actions to take and determines how the computer will change the data to information
what is hardware
the tangible parts of the computer system, physical components of the computer system that perform the 4 functions of the computer, input, processing, output, and storage
what are specifications
the technical details about each hardware component in a computer system
what is data
raw facts entered into the computer
what is information
the result of data processing
what are the 4 functions of the computer
input, output, processing, storage
what is input
receiving data into the computer
what is processing
changing data to information
what is output
presenting the information to the user
what is storage
storing information for later use
what are examples of input devices
keyboard, mouse, scanner, touchscreen, microphone, camera
what are examples of processing devices
CPU, motherboard, main memory( RAM)
what are examples of output devices
printer, monitor, speakers/ headphones, projector
what are examples of storage devices
flash drive/ thumb drive/ jump drive, hard drive, cloud, SSD, SD cards, CD/ DVD/ blue ray, network server
what are the two types of hardware
peripheral and process
what is peripheral hardware
the hardware components that perform the input, output, and storage functions
what is process hardware
the hardware components that perform the processing functions
what are ports
sockets or plug ins in the system unit that allow the user to connect peripheral hardware to the process hardware inside the system unit
what surrounds the process hardware
peripheral hardware
