Unit: 1 - rates of reactions Flashcards
(7 cards)
What two things are required for a successful reaction to occur in collision theory?
- Enough energy
- Correct Orientation
What are the 4 factors of rates of reactions?
- concentration
- particle size
- temperature
- use of a catalyst
If the concentration was increased, would the rate of reaction(s) decrease or increase?
Rates of reaction can be increased by increasing the concentration of a reactant
If we decreased the particle size, would the rate of reaction(s) decrease or increase?
Rates of reaction can be increased by decreasing the particle size (which increases the surface area) of a solid reactant.
If we increased the temperature, would the rate of reaction(s) decrease or increase?
Rates of reaction can be increased by increasing the temperature of the reaction.
If we used a catalyst in the reaction(s), would the rate of reaction(s) decrease or increase?
Rates of reaction can be increased by use of a catalyst. Catalysts are not changed during a chemical reaction and so can be recovered at the end unchanged.
