What was the focus of mertons groups
Individual motives to adhere to and accepts society’s norms and cultural goals. As well as behaviour and actions necessary for the individual to attain his or her personal goals.
What is heroic imagination?
The mindset of individuals who take a personal stand against wrongdoings around them
What is conformists?
People who accept the cultural goals of their society as well as means by which to attain those goals
Example- doctor or teacher
What is a ritualists?
Accept the means or standard necessary to achieve the end goal by May not accept the cultural goals of society.
Mostly likely to reject them.
Example- someone who revolutionaries the way things are done in any particular industry.
What are innovators?
Their goals are inline with those in society, innovators will not accomplish them using the acceptable channels and traditional mean. The envision different ways to reach goals.
Example- someone who revolutionizes the way things are done in any particular industry.
What are the retreatists?
People who have chosen to disengage from mainstream culture altogether.
Example- hippie
Who are the rebels?
They openly reject the cultural goals of their society, as well as the means by which one is expected to attain those goals.
Example- religion
What is the Stanford prison experiment?
Set up mock prison.
Half were designated as prisoners the others were guards.
What was the purpose in the Stanford prison experiment?
To see how the roles we play deeply influences our social behaviour.
