Q

importance of genetic diversity

A

-Maintains health and stability of a population
> Higher amount of alleles= higher chance at disease resistance

-Improves Biological Fitness (ability to survive and reproduce)

-Increases the Evolutionary Potential through higher genetic diversity

-Low genetic diversity increases risk for extinction (esp. small/fragmented populations)
-Very important in conservation programs for endangered species
