What is PA?
physical activity any movement of the body produced by skeletal muscles, resulting in energy expenditure
What is physical inactivity?
physical inactivity a lack of involvement in physical activity during an individual’s leisure time
What is a barrier?
barrier something that prevents progress or makes it difficult for an individual to achieve something
What is an enabler?
enabler something that makes it possible for a particular thing to be done
What is objective? Give me an example.
objective judgement that is based on something that can be measured by units of time, distance or some other measurement/units
Objective assessment tools include pedometers, wearable technologies and other digital tools.
What is sedentary behavior?
Sedentary behaviour is behaviour associated with sitting or lying down, including activities such as watching television, working or playing on the computer, driving or sitting in a car, bus or train. It also includes homework, studying or reading.
What is SES?
socioeconomic status (SES) a term used to describe the social and economic situation of an individual. It incorporates three components: education, occupation and income.
What is subjective? Give an example of two measures.
a method of collecting data that relies on an individual’s own perceptions, beliefs, or experiences
Subjective assessment tools include recall surveys and diaries.
What is the SEM?
social-ecological model a framework used to develop, implement and critique health-promotion strategies aimed at improving health by promoting physical activity and limiting sedentary behaviour
What does the first level of the SEM mean?
Individual level: knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, perceived barriers, motivation, enjoyment, motor skills, age, gender, socioeconomic status, self-efficacy, injuries and disabilities.
What does the second level of the SEM mean?
Social environment level: family, partners, peers, institutions, organisations, social support, healthcare professionals, educators, community norms, cultural backgrounds and community socioeconomic status.
What does the third level of the SEM mean?
Physical environment level: natural environment, availability and access to sport and recreation facilities, aesthetics, safety, community design and public transport.
What does the fourth level of the SEM mean?
Policy level: urban planning policies, education policies, workplace policies and funding policies.
What benefits does PA have on you?
Engaging in regular movement has physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual benefits.
What are the poor outcomes that is associated with physical inactivity and sedentary behavior?
Poor health outcomes associated with physical inactivity and sedentary behaviour include chronic health conditions such as diabetes mellitus, some cancers, obesity, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.
What is aerobic power?
aerobic power the maximum rate of energy production from the aerobic energy system
What is flexibility?
flexibility the range of movement around a joint
What is muscular endurance?
muscular endurance the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to sustain repeated or sustained contractions against resistance for an extended period
What is muscular strength?
muscular strength the peak force that a muscle can develop
What are sociocultural considerations?
sociocultural considerations relate to the interaction of social and cultural elements such as family, peers, community, gender, socioeconomic status, cultural beliefs and traditions
What are phsiological
considerations?
physiological considerations relate to the physical state and function of the participant, such as age, weight, fitness levels and health conditions, and which may influence the FMA
What are psychological considerations?
psychological considerations relate to the mental and emotional state of the participant, such as motivation, confidence and self-efficacy
Where does energy come from?
A compound called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) but only has a limited supply. So we must resynthesis it.
