The construction or modification (such as through renovation or home modification) of housing to enable independent living for persons with disabilities.
A change, exception, or adjustment to a rule, policy, practice, or service that may be necessary for a person with disabilities to have an equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling, including public and common use spaces, or to fulfill their program obligations.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
A civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. It affords similar protections against discrimination to Americans with disabilities as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which made discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, and other characteristics illegal, and later sexual orientation. The ADA also requires covered employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities, and imposes accessibility requirements on public accommodations.
A method of manipulating homeowners to sell or rent their homes at a lower price by falsely convincing them that the neighborhood’s socioeconomic demographic is changing because of new groups of people moving in and that this shift will affect the value of their home.
Civil Rights Act of 1866
In 1866, right after the end of the Civil War, the United States Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866. This law essentially prohibits discrimination in the purchase, sale, lease or conveyance of real property on the basis of race or color.
