dot maps
used to show the density of something like poulation by the size and distribution of the variable
eg population and value of crops
isoline maps
Shows gradual change over an area regarding rainfall/weather
choropleth maps
uses averages to compare data, regions or countries such as land ownership, recreational land and percentage of voters. Good for showing patters of something
proportional symbols
shows differences between places for a specific location -
pop, forestry, cars ect
sphere of influence maps
map shows the speceial extent or impact of a place or geographical event on surrounding area. human and physical data. size and shape is what’s important
transects
joins two parts of a map or town/city together. used for environmental quality, traffic flows, soil profiles, vegetation and (beach) landscapes.
what is a flow line map and what is it used for
used to show the actual flow and direction of movement
eg traffic, migration, river discharge
what is a cross section map and what is it used for
is a side view profile of an area being researched, used to show changes in relief along a line drawn between two points
eg river channel, valley features
