Unit 2-Motion and Forces Flashcards
Distance
The total length of a path traveled (base unit- meters)
Displacement
The direction from the starting point and the length of a straight line from the starting point to the ending point. *MUST BE A STRAIGHT LINE
Vector
A quantity that has magnitude and direction
Magnitude
The number part of an answer
Direction
either an abbreviation or an arrow
Speed
the distance an object travels per unit of time (meters per second)
Instantaneous Speed
the rate at which an object is traveling at a specific moment in time
Average Speed
total distance divided by total time
velocity
the description of both an object’s speed and direction. *VECTOR
speed=
distance/time
distance =
speed*time
time =
distance/speed
Graph
A way to visualize data
Line Graph
Show a relationship between variables changing over time
Bar graph
compares information collected by counting
Circle Graph
Shows how a fixed quantity is broken down into parts
Slope
the change in the vertical axis divided by the change in the horizontal axis
Reference Point
Gives location of an object relative to a specific point
Scalar
Quantity that has only magnitude
Motion
occurs when an object changes position
