Unit 2- Natures Chemistry Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is the homologous series?
A homologous series is a group of molecules with similar chemical properties, chemical formula and physical properties.
What is a hydrocarbon?
A Hydrocarbon is a molecule containing Hydrogen and Carbon.
Are alkanes satured?
Yes
Are alkenes saturated?
No
What are isomers?
Isomers are chemicals with the same chemical formula with different structural formulas.
What are addition reactions?
Addition reactions are when a molecule with a double bond adds onto an unsaturated molecule by adding onto their double bond.
What are the alcohols functional group?
Hydroxyl- (OH)
What are the carboxiylic acids functional group?
Carboxyl (COOH)
What are endothermic reactions?
An endothermic reaction is a chemical reaction in which the reactants absorb heat energy from their surroundings to form the products.
What are exothermic reactions?
An exothermic reaction is a chemical reaction in which the reaction process releases heat energy to its surroundings.
What is combustion reaction?
A combustion reaction occurs when a substance reacts with oxygen and energy is released.
What is specific heat capacity?
The specific heat capacity of a substance is the amount of energy required to heat that substance by 1 degree Celsius.
