atherosclerosis
the presence of plaque; a fatty, fibrous material within the walls of coronary arteries.
cholesterol
most widely known steroid; a natural and vital component of plasma membrane; serves as a building block for a number of essential biochemicals (i.e., vitamin D, bile acids, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone).
high-density lipoprotein
removes excess cholesterol from body cells and the blood and transport of liver for elimination.
low-density lipoprotein
carry ~75% of total cholesterol in blood to tissues and organs from liver, used to build plasma membranes or synthesize other steroids.
triglyceride
neutral fats, accounts 90% of total lipids in body; main storage form of fat in body and serves as an important energy source.
Angioedema
the swelling of the deeper layers of the skin, caused by a build-up of fluid.
