Increases expense due to cost or fuel , lots of fuel is used which produces more co2 adding to global warming & food will be less fresh & nutrional value can be reduced (vitamins lost due to long travel)

A

Food is tastier,cheaper & fresher when bought at summer (strawberries) & consumer are inward of when foods like fruit /veg are in season as aviable all year & if consumers were aware we would be able cut down on food miles

A

Quality of food can be better because fair traders consider environment & the fairtrade is clearly marked on foods to help consumers with their choice & there is a wide range of food products

A

As fairtrade products may be transported from far off countries some consumers are concerned about food miles & some fairtrade products tend to be expensive so some consumers can’t afford them

Advantages of additives ?

A

Foods have longer shelf life as additives prevent food spouling so consumer dosent have shop often & less food wastage as contamination of bacteria is reduced & nutrients such as vitamins are now being added to make them more nutrional

A

Foods are usually easy to prepare cook /reheat so saving time in busy life & chlling does not affect the colour ,flavour ,texture or nutrional value making product more acceptable to consumer & people with no cooking skills or who have difficulty prepare/cooking meals (elderly can use as only require reheating )

A

Some cook -chill meats may be high in fat & sugar and low in nsp so read label carefully & chilled products may use lots of packaging so if Consumer is concerned about environment may be unacceptable

A

UHT have longer shelf life & convient to stores as they do not require to be refrigerated unless opened & handy incase of emergencies

A

Allows a consumers to take greater control of their health through copping functional pods for specific health benefits & if family history of HD using a functional spreading fat which contains plant sterols could help control cholesterol in family

A

Reduce sugar & cal content of diet do helping weight reduction & bulk sweetners are used in sugar free confectionary and help reduce obesity & tooth decay & some sugar substitute are used in products suitable for diabetics (jam)

A

Sometimes can leave an unpleasant taste in mouth & some people concerned about sweetners as don’t know long te affect on health

Advantages of mycoprotein ?

A

Low in fat and contains no animal fat so prevent ChD & food source of protein and may be used as replacement for meat for veg & provides fpod source of nsp as small portions are even filling

A

Don’t contain vitamin b12 so veg would have to gain their vitamin b 12 intake somewhere else & some pruducts contain egg whites which unsuitable for vegans

A

Contains some fibre & low in fat & needs no special storage conditions so can be stored in cupboard for up to 7 months & tvp very good source of HBV protein

Can be lacking flavour unless flavour added & has different texture to meat which some consumers dislike
