Location of Lucas

A

Lucas is located 6km west of the Ballarat central business district, west of Alfredton on the Avenue of Honour, on Surt street and Remembrance drive. It is located 129.5km north-west-west of Melbourne (seen in figure 1.3) with the postcode 3350.

Natural characteristics

A
  • It has a very gentle undulation but is mostly flat and is 449m above sea level. It has limited vegetation with natural waterways like streams and ponds.
  • Recently over 200,000 plants and trees have been planted and there is a planned 11 hectares of wetlands with Lucas having a 40% tree cover in future. - Development resulted in the replenishment of waterways which water vegetation and provide habitats

Human characteristics

A

Over 30 businesses and shops are open or have been planned and in 2024 there were over 6000 residents in the suburb. Lucas has a $10million community hub with many parks and recreational facilities including Central Park. Lucas is divided into Cell A and Cell B. 317ha of development or future development.

A Flora and Fauna assessment, contamination assessment, social assessment, cultural heritage assessment, housing needs assessment and an economic assessment. As well as an urban structure which involved consultants, servicing authorities, powercore who supply electricity and VIC roads who deal with transport
