Unit 3 Science Flashcards
(20 cards)
What is cellular respiration
A chemical reaction used to GENERATE energy
What is the chemical equation to cellular respiration
C6H1206+02 yields H2O + C02 + chemical energy
⬆️glucose/sugar
What is decomposition
The role fungi and other decomposers take to recycle matter and make it available to other organisms
Define abiotic
Nonliving matter, for example sunlight, atoms, temperature, soil
Define biotic
Once living or living, for example animals, plants, fungi.
What is photosynthesis
A chemical process within plants using carbon dioxide water and light energy to synthesize food
What does synthesize mean
Make bonds
What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis
Water + carbon dioxide + light energy yields oxygen and glucose
In a sealed room during the day hours for oxygen be decreasing or increasing
Increasing from photosynthesis
In a seal the room during the night hours would the oxygen be increasing or decreasing
Do you creasing because photosynthesis only happens during daylight hours
What is a food web
Overlapping food chains
What is the ultimate source of energy
Sunlight
How do we taste
When humans to put food in their mouth the tongue sends a signal to the brain through the facial nerve, and the brain decides if it’s sweet spicy savory salty or bitter
How do we see
Light enters your pupil, then the Rods and Cones send a signal to the brain
What are rods in your eye
They help you see in the dark, they cannot see light
What is a stimulus
A detectable change in the environment
What are receptor proteins
Molecules attached to ourselves that can sense a stimulus and start a signal that travels to the brain
What are proteins
A special type of molecules in our bodies that can do things in our cells
Why can’t Joe see the difference between red and green
His green option in his eye is almost as long as the red one, so signals get messed up
What produces traits
A gene produces a protein which produces a trait
