Universal Declaration of Human Rights
A document created by the United Nations to explain what Human Rights should mean around the world
Made in 1948 during a United Nations conference
The idea came from Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of Franklin Roosevelt.
United Nations
A group of countries, states, and world leaders that formed a group to unite the world’s countries and protect world peace
193 countries as of 2025
Formed on October 24, 1945
Pyramid of Hate
A visualization of the potential outcomes of Hate towards a specific racial, religious, or political group

Indian Removal Act
An act that was passed to permanently remove Native Americans from their home, America.

Andrew Jackson
The president during the time of the Indian Removal Act
Even when the Cherokee nation won the lawsuit, Andrew Jackson ignored it and went on with the Indian Removal Act.
Trail of Tears
The route that many Native Americans had to take to leave the United States
They had to battle with harsh conditions and little food and water.
They were forced to leave as part of the Indian Removal Act.
Discrimination
The act of treating someone differently because of their race, sex, etc.
Prejudice
The idea that your particular ethnicity, race, sex, etc. is better than any others
Bias
The idea that your particular ethnicity, race, sex, etc. is better than any others
Stereotypes
The appropriation of certain traits to a particular group of people
Example: Asian people are bad drivers (Untrue)
Stereotypes may be appropriated by people seeing someone of that group and trait and thinking that the trait applies to all people in that group
Apartheid
A time when white people constantly mattered more than African natives in South Africa
Africans forced to live in Bantustans
White and black people segregated
Similar to segregation in 1900s USA
Segregation
Separating people based on their race, sex, etc.
Example: South African Apartheid

A leader of the African National Congress
Anti-Apartheid activist
Served as president of South Africa from 1994-1999
Shared Nobel Peace Prize with F.W. De Klerk

Served as president of South Africa from 1989-1994
Took Nelson Mandela out of prison
Shared Nobel Peace Prize with Mandela
African National Congress
Started as a movement to end Apartheid
Founded in 1912
Became a political party in South Africa
Robben Island
An island with a prison that was used to house undesirable people
Incarcerated activists like Nelson Mandela
Political Cartoon
A cartoon used to express the artist’s opinion on current events
Uses symbols and references to convey humor
Patriotism
The act of loving your country and/or serving it in any way
A patriot is one loyal to their country.
Nationalism
A strong attachment to a specific country or nation
Kind of like patriotism
Treaty of Versailles
A treaty that Germany was forced to sign to blame them for WWI
Many think this treaty was unfair.

Started when the Austrian-Hungarian heir to the throne was assassinated

A political party that harbored extreme views toward the causes of Germany’s defeat in WWI
