Stigma
Refers to any attribute, trait, or disorder that gets someone labelled as different from “normal people”
Stereotype
A person that conforms to a fixed way they should be or act.
Prejudice
A preconceived opinion.
Mental Illness
A disturbance in thoughts and emotions that affects a persons ability to deal with the challenges of everyday life.
Mood Disorders
Persistant changes in mood caused by biochemical imbalances in the brain.

Psychosis
The experiencing of hallucinations or delusions and can be organic (mental illness) or drug induced.
Example: Schizophrenia
Anxiety Disorders
Disorders that are associated with anxiousness, combined with physiological symptoms that interfere with everyday life.
Examples: OCD, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Phobias
Eating Disorders
A range of conditions involving an obsession with food, weight, and appearance that negatively affect a persons health, relationships and daily life.
Examples: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, EDNOS (Eating Disorder Not Specified)
Personality Disorders
A pattern, beginning at early adulthood, and behaviour that is significantly different from “normal”
Example: Multiple Personality Disorder

When was London’s Asylum built? What did they do there?
The asylum was built in 1870.
They focused on improving mental illnesses and getting people the help they needed.

1) Anti-psychotic Drugs: Treat Depression
2) Prozac: Treats OCD, Depression and Other Mental Illnesses
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
A non-invasive, painless method that uses magnetic field to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to treat conditions such as depression and hallucinations.
Sadness vs Depression
Sadness: When something happens in your life that upsets you for a short period of time and doesn’t take complete control of your life.
Depression: When everything in your life is going well but you still feel sad. This usually lasts for a long period of time and takes complete control of your life.
