The American Revolution (1775-1783)
Americans declared independence from GB on July 4, 1776 with the Declaration of Independence; after the Revolutionary War the United States of America was created.

written plan for gov’t; replaces the weak Articles of Confederation

The French Revolution, 1789-1815

third phase of FR, reactionary phase, restored order and appointed Corsican general, Napoleon Bonaparte, as a director and First Consul of France

fourth phase of FR, France became an empire under Napoleon; Napoleon institutes a number of popular reforms
