Abolition Movement
The movement that ended the atlantic slave trade along with freed all enslaved people. Slave trading ended in the 18th century
Empiricism
The belief that knowledge comes from experience and experiments compared to from tradition and religion.
Enlightenment
A movement with new ideas upon individualism, freedom, and self determination. Also challenging the idea of the of monarchy and church rule. Wich sent ripples through society and ultimately changing us forever for the better.
Suffrage movement
The movement that gave women the right to vote. One piece to start was thanks to Molly Wollstonecraft published a book over the rights of women. Stuff like this led to the infamous meeting of activists at Seneca Falls. Which was a convention to promote women’s rights and suffrage.
American revolution
The revolution was inspired from the European ideas of enlightenment philosophy, along with the ideas of physiocrats. Americans wanted more political freedom. This led to the creation of the Declaration of independence. Thomas jefferson picked up the ideas of unalienable rights from John Locke .
Bolivar Revolutions
In South America the idea of independence away from Spain became a very attractive idea to those of the lower class. The creoles had seen slave uprising and the french revolution and wanted something like that. Simon Bolivar wanted the Enlightenment idea to emerge in south America. Bolivar expressed his concerns and goals in a paper called Jamaica letter.
French Revolution
started in the 1780s with the saying liberte egalite fraternite. The national assembly started to meet in Paris. The crowds stormed bastille. The most permanent changes were such as the Declaration of the rights of man.Reign of terror occurred due to the king executing masses that would revolt.
Haitian revolution
At the end of the 18th century there was a start to revolutionary movement in the colony of Haiti. Slaves revolted. They were supported by escaped slaves( maroons) .The big revolutions going on inspired Toussaint L’Ouverture a former slave to also rebell with them. Jean Jacques dessalines orchestrated a Haitian declaration of independence. Grew out of enlightenment ideas.
Classic LIberalism
Ideas committed to individualism, liberty, and equal rights. They believed these goals needed a free econ and less government. John stuart mill had big beliefs about this.
Nationalism
Nationalism is when someone has a strong feeling of pride about their country, and even to hate people not from their country. The Italians prime minister really tried to unite the entire peninsula and created unity among the population. In Germany the nationalism was also very strong under napolean, and in Argentina too.
Causes of Industrialization
Industrialization was made for stuff such as the continuous need for growth in the agricultural aspects of economy, and also along with that Capitalism was created so it grew the industrialization ideas
Fossil Fuels revolution
New energy resources being used such as oil and Petroleum. These things fueled new technology.
Industrial communication
With the new industrial revolution and Fossil fuels revolution, communication improved between farther distances. For example the telephone was created eventually by alexander graham bell. Along with the Railroads and the the steamship which had used the new Fossil fuels .
Internal Combustion engine
The new fossil fuels led to more precise tech such as the internal combustion engine which led to automobiles and aeroplanes.
Second Industrial revolution
Occurred with most parts being thanks to Germany, Great Britain, and the US. With innovations such as steel, chemicals, precision machinery, and electronics.
Steam engine
Created by James watt. A cheap way to harness coal power to create steam which created energy for machinery
Meiji Restoration
When Japan’s new rulers decided to restore power for a 15 year old boy cause he was the closest linkof origins back to the sun goddess
Muhammad Ali
Abolished Janissaries and Tax farming, and from that focused on western reform.
Capitalism
A way of philosophy and economy that would be that most of the economy and trade is controlled by huge private entities. For this was the Industry captains, big names like rockefeller and biltmore, and Adam Smith whose beliefs were that economy markets will be at its best if it goes untouched by the government
Stock market
A center market where you can buy a small share of a company, those who bought were deemed shareholders who will receive money when the businesses do well.
Transnational business
Companies that operated across national borders. For example the HSBC A British operated and owned bank located in Hong Kong. Along with that the United fruit company which also located themselves elsewhere.
Communism
A Response to the Industrial revolution and capitalism. KArl Marx believe that capitalism was an advance to feudalism . Communism however would have all separate social classes completely end.
Labor unions
Organizations or groups for workers who wanted to be able to argue on their terms of working and put it into an official contract
Self- Strengthening Movement
A program to help facilitate China’s modernization. Started through fear by the conservative leaders that new industrialization will destroy the landlord class
