Cold war

A

As the balance of power started to shift countries like the US began to rise in power, and this brang issues upon with Russia and the US. Both being major powers neither wanted a full scale war but decided upon a cold war. Meaning no direct military conflicts, but propaganda campaigns, secret operations, and arms race.
LO- This resulted in many new allies such as nato and the warsaw pact. And the anti nuclear weapon movement.

Non aligned movement

A

As many countries wanted to stay out of us-soviet political affairs therefore leading to the meeting of bandung conference . Here countries created the non aligned movement where they passed resolutions and condemned colonialism .
LO- This caused other countries to wear another war therefore leading them to lean away from us and soviet affairs

Kwame Nkrumah

A

Leader during the non aligned movement from Ghana. He led Ghana out into independence from the British.
He advocated unity among several African countries with the organization of African unity.
And lastly became one of the most highly respected African leaders ever.
LO- After the 1900s people started to realize that they could become independent leading many people to want to be independent cause of all the freedoms.

Proxy Wars (Korean War and Angolan Civil War)

A

Proxy wars are when armies of smaller countries are stand ins for the bigger powers, with the mix of fighting for local issues and battle against colonialism and fighting for land reform.
The korean war was one of the biggest wars when north korea tried to invade south to unite under its leadership. The UN decided on defending South korea militarily.
Angolan Civil war, Angola was a multi ehtnic empire with 3 distinct cultural groups, and all 3 wanted to control the lucrative diamond mines, and each was supported by bigger powers.

Communist revolution in China

A

After the defeat of Japan in China by both the communists and the nationalist, the Communists rose to power after the end of a Chinese civil war with the leader Mao Zedong. Winning because they were good to peasents and the community and were seen as less corrupt compared to the Nationaiists. They set up the Peoples republic of China and also created 5 year plans based on the soviet models.

Great leap forward

A

The great leap forward is a policy that had China go through more new land reform. Here peasant land was turned into communes(large agricultural communities held by the state), and those that disagreed were killed, Even though food production decreased and led to food shortages China still continued to export food to express a fake success on Zaos economic plans

Communist Revolution for Vietnamese Independence

A

After WW2 Japan occupied Vietnam and France claimed this as a colony. Vietnam was agricultural and had few bigger powers owned land. Communists wanted to take the land from the higher powers and give it to the peasants. This gained the peasants support . Communists taking power in the North carried out their policies violently

A

After WW2 the freedom view became widespread through many countries. So many countries started looking for their indepencedence.For example Nkrumah a strong leader in Africa founded organization of African UNity for his vision of PanAfricanism on his way to independence and keep his newfound rule well. In algeria the Algerian war for independence occurred.

British divided India into two with India Hinuds and Pakistan Muslims into two countries where women had the right to vote . This caused much religious chaos, many moved locations. This also led to the Kashmir conflict which was over the Kashmir land along the border they eventually split the land.

A dictator In Spain, he was a strong anticommunist and friend/ ally of the US. HIs gov. executed, imprisoned, etc. People had much opposition to his authoritarianism. When he died the Spain gov. used this as an opportunity to start democracy.

led bt professor ambiel guzman. In Peru, he bombed and assassinated people in Peru cause he wanted to overthrow the government for power. He was eventually arrested and the organization got thrown and ended.

Soviet invasion of afghanistan

A

The soviets invaded to use the communist gov against the Muslim fighters. This led to upwards of millions fleeing afganistan to Pakistan and Iran. Soviet was not successful and was infact undermined by afganistan political party. The afgan war put stress on the soviet economy helping with the crash eventually in 12 years.
