When its about you, you’re more likely to blame the situation but when it’s about someone else you’re likely to blame their personality.
Explanatory Style
How people explain the good/bad events in their lives and others lives.
Self Serving Bias
Attributing success to our actions and failure is someone else’s fault
Actor Observing Bias
People attribute their own actions to external factors and other’s actions to internal factors
External Locus of Control
You generally believe things happen to you and you can’t change it
Internal Locus of Control
You generally believe you have the power to change and improve your situation
Mere Exposure Effect
Occurs when people are exposed to a stimulus repeatedly over time which causes them to like the stimulus more.
Self Fulfilling Prophecy
A belief about the future is brought to your attention and you take actions to bring you closer to said future and when things work out, it confirms your original belief
Social Comparison
People evaluate themselves based on comparisons to other people in society
Upwards Social Comparison
Comparing yourself to older peers and using it to motivate you to do better
Downwards Social Comparison
Comparing yourself to “lesser” peers and using that to make yourself feel better. (scoring low and a test and looking at someone who scored lower to feel better)
Relative Deprivation
The perception that one has less of a desired resource than a comparison standard (even if their actual circumstances are good or better)
