The Alien acts were calling people that did not belong to a civilization “Aliens”, Democratic-Republicans thought that this act was an attack on their party. The Sedition act was an act that encouraged rebellion against the government. The Democratic-Republicans viewed it as an attack on the rights of free speech and free press.

It stated that rights not given to the federal government remain with the states. The rights basically had a duty to nullify the laws, or to declare them to be without legal force. Thomas Jefferson and James Maddison saw them as statements opposing the Alien and Sedition acts

The 12th Amendment was added to the Constitution to prevent ties. It was added to the constitution after they had to break the ties of the election between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr.
