What does dramtic humor create
Like filmmakers, authors use dramatic irony to heighten tension and create interest in characters and plot events. This tension can take the form of humor or suspense.
How does dramtic irony make humor
When readers have a fuller understanding of events than some of the characters do, they can recognize when a character is misinterpreting a situation. This can lead to humor, as readers laugh at the character’s inappropriate responses or comical approaches to the plot situations.
How can dramatic irony create suspense
This imbalance of knowledge can also lead to suspense. When readers know that there is a possibility of danger or calamity, they feel fear or anxiety as they wait for the characters to fall victim to events.
In addition, authors can use situational irony to create humor and suspense.
In this form of irony, readers and characters are equally surprised by unexpected events. Stories with a surprise ending are a classic example of situational irony.
