A

Define physical development with an example.

A

Physical development relates to the physical changes of the body. Examples of this include increasing height and weight as a child grows, puberty effects (Developing breasts for girls, facial hair for boys etc.).

Define emotional development with an example.

A

Emotional development is used to refer to changes in understanding, expression and regulation of feelings. Examples include the development of a sense of self, and more complex emotions becoming present in a person (Guilt, shame, surprise, elation…)

A

Social development relates to the changes in how someone relates to others. (Learn about eye contact, body language, later developing sympathy, empathy… etc)

A

Cognitive development regards changes in thinking and thought processes. Examples of this include the development of object permanence, reservation and reduction of items and the development of abstract thought processes.

A

Growth is only used when referring to the size or quantity of something. Maturation refers to natural changes that may occur spontaneously but is genetically programmed.
