Is unstructured interviews primary or secondary data?

What are the two research for this and explain them?
1) Dobash and Dobash (1979) (radical feminists) - they used statistics from police courts to record on domestic violence and some interviews took 8 hours - the found that marriage allows violence towards women and gives men power
2) Dean and Taylor Gooby (1992) - investigated unemployment on 85 people and some interviews took up to 90mins, the questions were adapted and there was a freedom to talk

1) highly flexible - not set questions
2) very informal nature - can build a rapport

1) the interviewees can talk about what the want
2) informed consent

1) interpretivists like this as there is greater freedom
2) increases validity
What are 2 disadvantages on practical?
1) time-consuming
2) interviewees needs training
What are 2 disadvantages on ethical?
1) uncomfortable - sensitive issues
2) psychological harm by recalling the negative experiences
What are 2 disadvantages of theoretical?
1) positivists will dislike as each interview is unique
2) smaller numbers meaning it will not be representative
