Upper Limb and Chest Flashcards

1
Q

Deltoid

A
  • O: lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula
  • I: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
  • A: anterior portion flexes, horizontally adduct, and medially rotates arm, middle portion abducts arm and the posterior portion extends, horizontally abduct, and laterally rotates the arm
  • N: axillary (C5-C6)

Teres Major

A
  • O: dorsal surface of inferior angle of scapula
  • I: medial lip of bicipital (intertubercular) groove of humerus
  • A: adducts, medially rotates, and extends humerus (same as lats)
  • Big helper to latissimus dorsi

Q

Supraspinatus

A
  • O: supraspinous fossa of scapular
  • I: superior facet of greater tuberosity of humerus
  • A: assists deltoid in abducting arm (particularly important in initiation of abduction), fixes head of humerus in glenoid cavity; rotates head of humerus laterally (minor). Rotator cuff impingement, rotator cuff tendonitis.
  • N: suprascapular (C5-C6)
  • Moves arm in Abduction in first 30º

Subscapularis

A
  • O: subscapular fossa
  • I: lesser tuberosity of humerus
  • A: medially rotates and adducts arm. Inferior fibers depress humerus

Pectoralis Minor

A

• O: upper outer surface of ribs 3-5
• I: coracoid process of scapula
• A: stabilizes, and depresses scapula
