why did East German workers protests?

A

building workers were undergoing new construction and had increased work norms and protested against this and then other workers joined them. when no one from the sed came to talk to to them they went to a government building. they were given mixed signals so they striked further and became more restless, but only 6% of workforce took part. the ussr was appalled and sent 20000 troops, and ulbrithcch was forced to reduce work norms

what were the Poland riots?

A

Stalin works employed 15000 people. they started a protest over increased production norms and lower overtime pay. this followed a denial of a 20% wage increase. They rioted, looted , destroyed party offices etc. local troops could not handle this. and 75 dead 900 wounded.

consequences for Poland riots?

A

minority of hard liners in puwp drew up list of people to arrest, however after. couple months agreements by liberal members claimed they should list to demands and brought back gomulka to convince Khrushchev to restore order. reforms:
* actual choice in elections of candidates
* political prisoners freed.
* wages increased by 30%
* no more raises to work norms

the riots in Hungary?

A

rakes was a hardliner who got replaced by Nagy again. this led to a thaw where people had more freedoms and became more radical. students started rioting over purges for rakosi. on 22 October students wrote 16 demands and demanded them to be read out on the radio.
