what is urbanisation?
The process by which an increasing percentage of a country’s population comes to live in towns and cities
how do urbanisation rates vary around the world?
The highest rates of urbanisation are in poorer LIC in Asia and Africa. In these areas, the majority of the population still live in rual areas so the rual to urban migration is high. Whereas the lowest rates are in HIC’s in Europe, north america and Oceana. Urbanisation has slowed down as the majority of the population already live, in cities.
What are push factors?
Something that causes you to want to leave somewhere
What are pull factors?
Something that makes you want to live somewhere
what is urban growth?How is urbanisation different from urban growth?
Urbanisation is the increase in people living in cities whereas urban growth is the growing of the size of the city.
What is an urban area?
A well built environment
What is migration?
Movement of population from one place to another.
What is immigration?
Movement into country
(Immigration=In)
What is emmigration?
Movement out of country
(Emmigration= Exit)
what is rual to urban migration?
Movement of people from countryside to city areas
what is infant mortaloity rate?
Measure of hoe many babies die before the age of 1.
Fact: In 2008 the worlds urban population was greater than its rual population for the first tiem. By 2050, it is expected to reach 70% and it is about 55% right now
Why is urbanisation growing so much at LIC?
-people want more jobs so they move into the larger city to find jobs.
-There is better education
-Better transportation in Urban areas which measn easier access to majr facilities uch as hospitals
-Better healthcare in urbamn areas
Is tehre a diference between the push and pull factors between HIC and LIC?
