What are subunit and conjugate vaccines?

A
  • Subunit means only part of the pathogen isused to generate an immunogenic response (i.e. hep B, HPV)
  • Conjugate vaccine is a particular type that links the poorly immunogenic bacterial polysaccharide outer coats to proteins to make them more immunogenic (i.e. pneumococcus, haemophilus, meningococcus)
