Variety of Cells Flashcards
(11 cards)
Describe a Red Blood Cell and it’s function.
It has no nucleus and contains haemoglobin which combines with oxygen. Red Blood Cells carry oxygen around the body.
Describe a Cheek Cell and its function.
It is a simple unspecialised animal cell.
Describe a Sperm Cell and its function.
The tail is streamlined in order to help it swim towards the egg.
Describe an Egg Cell and its function.
Food can be stored in this large cell.
Describe an Intestine Cell and its function.
Folds - (microvilli) increase the surface area for absorption of food. These cells are found in the Small Intestine.
Describe a Tracheal Cell and its function.
It is a ciliated cell found in the trachea where the cilia hairs sweep up mucus and any bacteria and dust that enter, helping to keep the lungs clean.
Describe a Neurone, (nerve cell).
These long cells quickly carry messages around the body.
Name the two plant cells.
Palisade Cell - (in leaf), and Root Hair Cell.
Describe a Palisade Cell and its function.
It contains chloroplasts that contain chlorophyll. It is here that sugar is made by photosynthesis during the day.
Name the seven animal cells.
Red Blood Cell, Cheek Cell, Sperm Cell, Egg - (ovum), Intestine Cell, Tracheal Cell, Neurone - (nerve cell).
Give an example of a simple organism.
Amoeba.
