A
  1. Support weight of torso, upper limbs, head
  2. Transmits weight of torso, upper limbs/head to the pelvis and then lower limbs
  3. orient torso allow free movement of upper limbs
  4. provide attachment for major muscles of torso and shoulders
  5. protect spinal cord
